This 308 Winchester ammo by Black Hills Gold sports a 168 grain polymer tipped bullet – but it’s not designed for hunting applications and will not expand during penetration. That little beauty is the Extremely Low Drag Match bullet by Hornady, and it delivers a whole new level of accuracy at the rifle range!Hornady developed the ELD Match’s Heat Shield tip after Doppler radar testing confirmed that aerodynamic heating is intense enough to warp standard polymer. The high-tech synthetic Heat Shield tip can’t melt regardless of how fast the bullet is traveling, so deformation never harms accuracy.
The ELD Match exhibits incredible in-flight rotational stability courtesy of Hornady’s Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket, which is essentially perfect in terms of its concentricity. The ELD Match also showcases ballistically efficient secant ogive geometry, as well as a boat tail which does even more to flatten its trajectory, keep its downrange velocities faster, and promote greater resistance to wind drift.
