Hornady Ammunition 165 Grain SST Ammo Details

This 30-06 round by Hornady is crowned with its manufacturer’s 165 grain SST (Super Shock Tip) projectile. The SST boasts an excellent ballistic coefficient courtesy of its secant ogive profile and tapered base; It accordingly creates comparatively less drag in flight and offers a flatter trajectory and greater energy to convey on impact. The SST’s pointed polymer tip doesn’t harm its aerodynamic profile either, and it also acts to commence rapid expansion upon impact. The SST’s InterLock ring and mid-body cannelure work hand in hand to keep its core and jacket together during penetration, so it penetrates deeply in addition to expanding widely. With such accuracy and terminal performance, the SST is an excellent projectile for hunting deer.

A Superformance round has a progressive propellant which boosts its muzzle velocity by up to 200 fps, but without bringing about added muzzle blast, recoil, and other undesirable effects. A Hornady round’s brass casing is always a high quality thing, as is its non-corrosive primer.

Using a Browning X Bolt, 3 rounds 1 ragged hole at 100 yards, in the X, I'm coming in 1/4" low at 150 yards. This past season I shot three deer. All were one shot, one kill. Only 1 went further than 10 yards after being hit, but not much further.
