This cartridge is loaded with a 125 grain projectile, which makes its muzzle velocity thoroughly supersonic at 2,185 fps. The most important thing to appreciate about the open tip bullet is that it is a hollow point in appearance only. You can easily unravel a varmint with such a bullet, and no one would be very happy about getting shot with an open tip, but it’s just not built to deliver the terminal expansion you’d want for taking medium-size game.

The open tip is all about accuracy. The aperture in its meplat proves that the open tip’s lead core was injected into place. It’s form-fitted, and accordingly perfectly balanced. This bullet’s flat base provides a nice and even surface for propellant gasses to push up against, and its sleek jacket only further enhances the open tip’s accuracy.
