It is called “bullet,” and you’ll find a very good example of one in this 30-30 Winchester cartridge by Nosler.

This round’s 150 grain bullet is officially called a “Solid Base” – a nod to the base of its jacket, which is thicker than usual to help force broader expansion at all velocities. The soft point bullet’s exposed lead core is able to initiate expansion following weaker impact thanks in part to the tapered jacket surrounding it, which is especially thin around the rim so it can split apart more evenly under all practical conditions.

If fired out of a 24” barrel, this round’s 150 grain SP ought to strike with over 1,000 ft lbs of kinetic energy at any range within 197 yards – farther than most would consider covering with their 30-30 rifles. Nosler’s own American-made brass is worthy of seating their premium bullets, and equally worthy of filling the confines of your prized rifle’s chamber.
