Hornady Ammunition 162 Grain ELD-X Ammo Details

P.O. Ackley rocks. His 280 Ackley Improved cartridge rocks. But finding factory-loaded 280 AI ammunition at the store? That doesn’t rock at all, because it’s hard to do.

Fortunately, you don’t need a store at all. You just need your best boys at AmmoToGo.com to ship you as many boxes of Hornady Precision Hunter 280 AI ammo as you want!

Hornady loaded this ammo with their state-of-the-art Extremely Low Drag - eXpanding projectile. Once the 162 grain ELD-X accelerates to a velocity of 2,850 fps (which Hornady recorded using a 24” test barrel), it attains a high G7 ballistic coefficient of 0.318. That’s the work of several of the bullet’s drag-reducing features, including its Heat Shield polymer tip which does not warp while it's baked by air friction, as well as its superbly balanced AMP jacket. By Hornady’s measure, this round’s drop is just -6.9” a hundred yards downrange of a 200-yard goose egg.

It wouldn’t be “Precision Hunter” ammo if it were only accurate. The ELD-X is equipped for deep penetration thanks to its InterLock ring: assurance that the bullet will retain 50-60% of its weight after striking a target within 400 yards, or 85-90% after 400+ yard impact. At longer ranges the ELD-X’s Heat Shield tip reliably commences fast and lethal terminal expansion. Your quarry will consider it an honor to have been felled by the hallowed 280 AI!
