20rds – 223 Rem Winchester DHS Purple Casing 62gr. OT Ammo Details
This 223 Rem ammo by Winchester will let you enjoy your own “purple rain” -- of lead, that is. The fetching cartridge features a pretty purple shell casing, which was meant to serve as an easy indicator that it’s a training round for the Department of Homeland Security. (Mixing up your training and your active duty ammo is considered a massive faux pas at the DHS.) You can enjoy this government ammo either for its aesthetics or for its reloadability, as underneath that purple is Winchester’s very own high quality brass. This round sports a slightly heavier bullet at 62 grains. As the result its less susceptible to the influence of crosswinds as you’re training in the great outdoors. The open tip bullet resembles a hollow point at face value, but its terminal performance is essentially the same as that of a vanilla FMJ. Its tip’s opening allowed the bullet’s core to be poured into place, making for the uniformly dense core which promotes stellar accuracy.

Ive used this ammo for years. There's really nothing that special about this ammo. But this brass polishes really nice when reloaded. It shoots just like any other 62 gr ammo. Nickel plated under all that purple dye. Does work great in properly functioning firearms, of course. But looks like now its becoming like a collector item now that the DHS contract for this ammo is gone.
