This 12 Gauge shotshell from Winchester’s Long Beard XR line of ammunition is loaded with 1 3/4 ounces of copper plated #5 shot. If you opened this shell up, you would see that its payload is suspended in a clear column of resin. (It sort of resembles one of those terrifying gelatin side dishes that were inexplicably in vogue back in the day.) The resin powderizes upon ignition, buffering the shot as it speeds down the bore in order to keep it more perfectly spherical before exiting the muzzle. The result? A far tighter and more accurate pattern, and one that will deliver double the pellets through a 10” circle 60 yards away. It’ll penetrate 10 percent better than traditional lead beyond 50 yards as well! Performance like that used to be the exclusive domain of tungsten loads, so you can enjoy great knockdown performance the next time you’re turkey hunting without having to shell out more for a more costly shell.
