What’s the point of bismuth shot? It’s just as nontoxic as steel, although that alone is hardly enough to justify its higher price tag. Bismuth owes its noticeable performance advantage to its higher density: approximately 9.6 g/cc, as opposed to steel which is only about 83% as dense at 8 g/cc. A #2 bismuth shot pellet therefore weighs significantly more than a #2 steel alternative. That means it conserves more momentum, which gives it greater resistance to wind drift and more powerful striking energy at any range. Better accuracy. Higher stopping power. Waterfowl better watch their backs wherever bismuth is around.
