500rds – 308 Win Black Hills 168gr. HPBT Match Ammo
Black Hills Ammunition 168 Grain Hollow-Point Boat Tail (HP-BT) Ammo Details
We love every American ammo manufacturer like a bull goose loves his goslings. But Black Hills Ammunition of Rapid City, South Dakota? Well, that particular outfit gives us warmer and fuzzier feelings than most. It’s not just because they’re always a joy to deal with. It’s not just because they earned the gold star of creating match ammo for the U.S. Armed Forces. At the end of the day, we love Black Hills because we love firing their ammo – especially this here match-grade 308 Win.This cartridge is loaded with a hollow point boat tail match projectile – 168 grains, at which weight it reliably clears a 24” barrel’s muzzle at a velocity of 2,650 fps. The projectile’s slender tip sports a narrow opening, which molten lead was poured through to create the HPBT’s form-fitted lead core. In addition to its concentric jacket, the HPBT’s core is devoid of flaws that could have harmed rotational stability, and its weight is rearward-situated to promote even better balance. The HPBT’s base is also fully jacketed, thus preventing any part of the core from getting aerosolized and becoming uneven during ignition.
Black Hills’ primo brass cases won’t disappoint, especially if you intend to handload them. Only one warning: this is not hunting ammo. The HPBT isn’t built for expansion, so it won’t inflict the wide wound column which takes down a deer quicker and more humanely.
