5rds – 12 Gauge Hornady American Gunner Reduced Recoil 2-3/4" 1oz. Rifled Slug Ammo Details

Recoil. It is the unfortunate product of Newton's Third Law, which holds that for every action in nature there is an equal and opposite reaction. In other words, when a 12 Gauge slug erupts from your shotgun’s barrel at high speed, energy flows backward into your shoulder to cause discomfort and throw your aim off of your target.

A 12 Gauge shell’s recoil energy is determined by multiple factors, not the least of which is muzzle velocity. That is why Hornady loads this American Gunner series shell’s one-ounce rifled slug to a muzzle velocity of 1,300 fps, which is relatively low in the grander scheme of things. It is also why they gave this shell a long accordion-like plastic wad, which crushes under pressure to effectively absorb some recoil energy before it can reach all the way back to your shoulder.

This shell’s slug is a rifled slug. It is designed to safely pass through a muzzle’s choke, and it is only intended for use in smoothbore shotguns. And while 1,300 fps may be a lower muzzle velocity for a slug, we would not call this shell “weak” by any reasonable standard. Its muzzle energy is about six times more powerful than the minimum commonly advised for personal protection, and at 50 yards its energy still exceeds the 1,000 ft lbs minimum threshold typically advised for hunting whitetail.

This versatile low-recoil 12ga slug ammo is made Nebraska with high-quality components. Its dram equivalent is 3-1/4; please check your shotgun’s manual or with its manufacturer before ordering low-recoil ammo for a semi-automatic.
