This 224 Valkyrie cartridge is from Hornady’s Varmint Express line of ammunition, and suitably features the 60 grain V-MAX projectile, a bullet perfectly designed for dispatching small and rodential game. This round’s V-MAX is able to expand rapidly within game even at half its muzzle velocity, a feat it owes to its polymer tip. That tip drives downward into the underlying precisely formed swaged lead core upon impact, causing the entire bullet to fragment virtually instantaneously. The V-MAX is also up to the task of hitting such small targets from great distances because of its superior accuracy. Its pointed meplat complements its streamlined profile to heighten its ballistic coefficient substantially, and its match grade AMP jacket is extremely concentric to optimize in flight stability.
