Pump actions. Semi-automatics. Everything else. They all get along nicely with Hornady Critical Defense 12 Gauge ammunition, which won’t displease you to discover while you are firing in defense of your life.

This shell is packed with the preferred shot pellet for law enforcement, warfare, and deer hunting: 00 buck. The 2-3/4” shell could easily have held more pieces of 00 buck than eight. But by keeping its shot column lighter, Hornady is able to safely turbocharge the round’s muzzle velocity to a tearjerking 1,600 fps. Expect a 4-1/2 to 4-3/4 dram equivalent shell to kick aplenty, build up enough juice to operate a semi-auto, and wreak havoc on whichever target it’s let loose on.

Expect a narrow pattern, too. Hornady’s Versatite wad is not altogether unlike the Federal FliteControl. Either one erects little fin-like air brakes around its base to (A) promote more efficient ignition, and (B) help the wad neatly detach from the shot column a few or more yards from the muzzle, thus producing a tighter and altogether more effective shot string.

Shot 10 rounds yesterday at the patterning range and wow these have huge kick compared to normal 00 buck. I have a Benelli M2 with full choke installed. At 15 yards had a pattern within 5 inch diameter, at 25 yards roughly within 8 or 9 inches. 0 failures or jams.
