Magtech 124 Grain Lead Round Nose (LRN) Ammo Details

You seldom see a lead round nose bullet on a semi-automatic pistol cartridge. Truth is, this 9mm ammo by Magtech offers several benefits by foregoing any copper in its 124 grain LRN bullet.

The LRN is still nonmagnetic, of course, so your hawk-eyed rangemaster will give it a thumbs-up. Without a copper jacket the pure lead bullet poses a somewhat reduced risk of splashing back dangerous shrapnel after it hits a hard surface like steel or stone. Soft lead also deforms as it penetrates soft tissue – nowhere near as widely as a hollow point could have, of course, although we’d still say this bullet is poised to do greater damage to a threat than a conventional FMJ could have.

This round’s 124 grain bullet delivers a just barely subsonic muzzle velocity out of a handgun’s 4” barrel, so its report shouldn’t crack quite so loudly. Out of the same handgun it will lose only about 14 percent of its velocity by the 100 yard mark, at which point it will have dropped by about 12”. That’s not a laser-like trajectory, yet still perfectly serviceable for target shooting and plinking – precisely what you ought to use this ammo for!

Magtech’s factory is located in Brazil, and it is managed by the CBC group – one of the largest commercial ammunition producers in the world. These rounds’ highly standardized bullets are matched well with reloadable brass cases, non-corrosive Boxer primers, and consistent propellant charges.
