50rds – 5.56x45 Black Hills 77gr. OTM Ammo Details

What do all branches of the United States Armed Forces share in common? Two things: they all have snappy uniforms, and they all purchase match 5.56x45 ammunition made by Black Hills Ammunition of South Dakota. Perhaps you aren’t special ops, but you are still special enough to fire this long-range precision ammo at the range!

This round’s bullet is heavy and perfectly balanced. A 77 grain projectile does rely on a 1:8” (or quicker) barrel twist in order to achieve peak stability. But once it has stabilized, the massive projectile does an exemplary job shrugging off wind drift. An OTM superficially resembles a jacketed hollow point, but its nose cavity will not in fact trigger terminal expansion following impact. The OTM’s jacket is drawn to exact dimensions and with extremely uniform wall thickness. Afterward, the small aperture in the jacket’s tip gives access to molten lead which ultimately hardens to form a flawless and rotationally stable core.

Black Hills loads each one of these tack drivers with a match Boxer primer and carefully standardized charge of low-fouling propellant. The case is brand new and an excellent choice for handloading. Its shoulder is visibly discolored, but that only proves it was correctly annealed for added durability and suppleness.
