This round’s 178 grain ELD-X bullet does indeed boast that combination of match grade accuracy and devastating terminal performance. Hornady didn’t skip an opportunity to flatten its trajectory. The ELD-X’s voidless lead core and AMP jacket keep it stable in flight. Its secant ogive profile and boat tail raise its ballistic coefficient substantially. The ELD-X’s Heat Shield polymer tip sharpens its ballistic coefficient even higher to .278 (G7), ensuring the bullet carries over 1,800 ft lbs of energy at 500 yards. True to its name, the Heat Shield shrugs off aerodynamic friction so that it can remain a sharp, balanced, and aerodynamic meplat – revolutionary stuff!

The ELD-X also features Hornady’s InterLock ring, which extends and embeds the AMP jacket into the core. This promotes superior weight retention even at higher velocities. But as the ELD-X starts finding targets at the 400 yard range, its Heat Shield tip can reliably initiate massive terminal expansion accompanied by as much as 90 percent weight retention.
