20rds – 270 Win Barnes VOR-TX Long Range 129gr. LRX BT Ammo Details

Hunting with copper has never been more proper! Barnes of Utah is one of the world’s leading authorities on monolithic bullets. They set out to develop an effective lead-free long-distance 270 Win hunting cartridge, and they called their best work “VOR-TX Long Range.”

This round’s 129 grain Long-Range X boat tail (LRX BT) bullet has a muzzle velocity of 3,140 fps. Its polymer tip and sloping tail both help it conserve that velocity, as does the superior balance it receives by not having a jacket or core that could contain flaws. These features contribute to the LRX BT high downrange energy retention: 2,130 ft lbs at 200 yards, which we dare say would get any job done (with good shot placement).

Monolithic bullets like LRX BT excel at penetration. They don’t shed much weight. They don’t lose much momentum. They just keep on digging deeper and deeper. The LRX BT doesn’t merely penetrate like some solid copper bullets, however. Like Barnes’ most famous bullet, the TSX, the LRX BT expands by sticking out four individual “cutting petals.” They live up to their name.

This ammo has a G1 0.463/G7 0.229 ballistic coefficient. Don’t sweat those numbers if you’re not familiar with them. Just know that Barnes’ new brass-cased ammo will help you hunt like a pro without the power of lead!
