These .30-06 hunting cartridges are appropriate for use in classic M1 Garands as well as modern bolt-action rifles. Fiocchi assembles each of these rounds with precision in mind and utilizes reloadable brass casings equipped with non-corrosive Boxer primers and filled with consistent measures of propellant. The cartridge build is crowned with a 180 grain ballistic tipped bullet from Hornady's SST brand. 180 grains is a common weight for .30-06 Springfield and delivers deer-dropping momentum with a relatively flat trajectory.
The SST, an acronym for Super Shock Tip, is designed for long range, big game hunting and is shaped with a secant ogive and boat tail base which have both been elongated for superb drag resistance. The projectile's hollow cavity is occupied by a red polymer tip that has been tapered to bullet's jacket in order to act as a windshield during flight as well as an expansion initiator upon impact. The bullet's construction includes a toothed cannelure on the outside as well as an internal lock ring further down the base; both of these features slow expansion during entry into a target and prevent separation between copper jacket and lead core.
In effect, this round successfully penetrates past thick bone and hide in order to reach vital organs and stop big game with humane efficiency. Fiocchi is an Italian manufacturer with nearly 140 years of experience and close relationships to firearms manufacturers and competitive shooters that help back their products with real world data. The majority of their American-sold Extrema products are assembled in their Missouri plant and subjected to heavy inspection in order to ensure consistent performance with every shot.
