Fortunately Red Army Standard will let you buy a whole case of 308 Win without having to pay for nearly any half-precious copper!This round’s case is its most obvious steel feature. The pure steel case is coated with a thin layer of heat-resistant polymer that won’t burn off as it facilitates more reliable feeding and extraction. It is incredibly difficult to reload a steel case, so you wouldn’t want to bother trying unless there were simply no other ways to get ammo.
This round’s 150 grain FMJ bullet also contains steel. Its core is solid lead, but its bimetal jacket is made of soft steel with a thin copper-washed exterior. That steel is strong enough to prevent bullet deformation during feeding and ignition, and it is also safe for a barrel – but it is also going to attract a magnet. Make sure your range is cool with magnetic ammo before bringing this ammo there!
Russian steel-cased ammo is loaded with cost-effective yet non-corrosive Berdan primers. This ammo is brand new production, not military surplus that has been lying around for goodness knows how long.
