Its drawn copper-alloy jacket is tapered, and its thin rim is strategically weakened by an array of precise serrations. These features enable the XTP to exhibit terminal expansion even when it penetrates a soft medium with relatively little momentum.

The XTP’s swaged core contains no voids or other imperfections that could have harmed its rotational stability, and Hornady is famous for the concentricity of their bullets’ jackets.
