Hollow Point

The 5.45x39 cartridge was designed to be a military cartridge and therefore it’s original load was a full metal jacket bullet, it wasn’t until later that 5.45x39 hollow point loads were introduced to shooters.

Hollow point 5.45x39 ammo is designed with a small cavity in the tip of the round. This allows the round to expand at this hollow cavity. The expansion will create deformation and do two critical things in a self-defense situation. First, the round will slow dramatically, while still obtaining sufficient penetration, and stop before exiting the attacker. This prevents over penetration. Secondly the round will expand and create a larger wound channel, dealing more damage.
