Wolf Ammunition 62 Grain Penetrator Ammo Details

This 5.56x45 cartridge’s 62 grain bullet may look like a polymer tip at first glance, but the green part of its tip is only paint. That shows this round is an M855, with a steel tip concealed beneath its bullet’s full metal jacket.

While this isn’t military surplus, the Army typically uses M855 ammo because its bullet is able to reliably penetrate a 1/8” thick sheet of steel past 500 yards. You can still certainly use M855 for range training, although you’ll want to take caution that its magnetic bullet doesn’t run up against your range’s rules. This round’s 3,250 fps muzzle velocity flattens its trajectory out nicely, but its 62 grain bullet demands a 1:8 or faster barrel twist for proper in flight stability.

This is Wolf’s Gold label ammunition, which is made in Taiwan instead of Russia and features reloadable brass cases. Although you may see “223 Rem” on this round’s headstamp, it is still a 5.56x45 and as such must only be chambered in AR-15 rifles that are chambered accordingly. This round’s non-corrosive primer won’t require special steps while cleaning, and its supple brass case and clean burning propellant mitigate carbon fouling throughout an extended shooting session.

First let me start off by saying that nobody in the ammo business does it better than ATG period! I am a firm believer in real world scenarios. What do I mean? The majority of people buying ammo are civilians stocking up for SHTF situations. Based on that there is no need to worry about how accurate your ammo is at 600 yards! Most people want to protect their family and there will be no need to engage targets at anything over 200 yards. Me personally I would never engage at even that distance, I would get out of there! If you want to survive do not engage...period! In these real world situations if you get wounded you stand a good chance on expiring. Most of us are in urban settings and would have to deal with defense from our homes or bugging out in populated areas. Primary would be that our ammo goes bang every time! Based on that I test my ammo by sighting in at 50 yards dead on! Doing that will give you a slightly high point of impact at 100 by around a inch or so and then close to point of impact again at 200! I tested this ammo out of two rifles. A colt 6920 556 1in 7 twist and a WarSport 223 Wylde 1 in 8 twist! I use Aimpoint T2's with Larue tactical mounts co-witnessing lower one third and Lancer magazines. This ammo was very consistent and clean burning. I fired 60 rounds out of each rifle with no failure to feed or failure to fire! Without giving actual group sizes all I will say is that all groups were under 2.5 inches at 200 and under 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards respectively. I have been a huge fan of the IMI ammo over the years due to its utter reliability and quality and although IMI ammo produces tighter groups this wolf ammo wasn't far behind! This ammo is loaded hotter than the IMI and although I would not put this ammo on that level I was very pleased with the results! I would not hesitate to purchase more especially from the best customer service oriented and fastest delivery company around... ATG!

Excellent quality ammo. I love the steel cased ammo they make and this was an icing on the cake purchase for brass cased M855 for under $20. You cannot get anything better than that in the midst of a scandemic ammo shortage.

Much credit to the owners of this ammunitiontogo! Shipping is incredibly fast, the ammo appears to have been stored well, packaged excellently and all of my rounds from this Texas owned company fired without issues. Thank you!
