Although you\u2019ll need an official score by a certified measurer to get in the record books, scoring your own buck is fun and rewarding. Plus, a gross score will help secure your bragging rights. <\/span><\/p>\n

If scoring a buck seems like a confusing process, you aren\u2019t alone. Plenty of hunters feel overwhelmed by the prospect of scoring a rack. However, there\u2019s no need to panic. We\u2019ve simplified scoring into an easy, step-by-step process anyone can follow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About Buck Scoring Record Books<\/span><\/h2>\n

The mission of the <\/span>Boone & Crockett Club<\/span><\/a> is \u201cto promote the conservation and management of wildlife, especially big game, and its habitat, to preserve and encourage hunting and to maintain the highest ethical standards of fair chase and sportsmanship in North America.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The brainchild of the iconic hunter (and president), Theodore Roosevelt, Boone & Crockett also keeps records of North America\u2019s biggest game animals. The Club has been measuring trophy big game since 1895 and began recognizing outstanding big game trophies in its 1932 record book, <\/span>Records of North American Big Game<\/span><\/i>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Club continues to publish \u201cThe Book\u201d of big game records. Now in its 14th edition, the <\/span>Records of North American Big Game<\/span><\/i> catalogs the greatest big game animals ever harvested in North America. \u201cThe Book\u201d features entries for every North American big game species legally taken with rifles, compound bows, and muzzleloaders, as well as specimens legally found. The <\/span>Pope & Young Club<\/span><\/a> features fair chase, big game animals taken by North American bowhunters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Boone & Crockett has a minimum entry for typical whitetails of 170 points and 195 points for non-typical bucks. Pope & Young has a minimum entry score of 125 for typical and 155 for non-typical whitetails.<\/span><\/p>\n
