SLUG

When you can’t shoot a rifle, there’s always the option of going with a 20 gauge slug.

There are a lot of states in the United States that won’t let you use rifles and handguns for hunting deer. In those cases, hunters are forced to use shotguns and often, it’s a 20 gauge rifled slug that those hunters rely upon to take down their game.

The 20 gauge is a handy cartridge for this purpose when loaded with rifled slugs. In fact, with both sabot slugs and .615 caliber rifled slugs weighing 250 grains to 440 grains traveling at muzzle velocities ranging from 1,400 fps to 2,120 feet per second, the 20 gauge makes quite an effective deer hunting cartridge at moderate ranges. Plus, due to the lighter projectile, the 20 gauge generates significantly less recoil than the 12 gauge when loaded with either rifled slugs or buckshot.
