The wadcutter design was developed for bullseye competition shooting that was big in the 1950s and 1960s. These round were designed to simplify scoring by producing a very distinct round hole in the target. These round rounds typically had a sub 900 fps second velocity which minimizes the chance of penetrating through the target’s backing material.
