Magtech 124 Grain Jacketed Hollow-Point (JHP) Ammo Details

These 9mm Luger rounds from Magtech's "First Defense" line are an excellent choice for self-defense and come packed with features designed to keep you safer. Each of these rounds starts with a reloadable brass casing which has its primer pocket lined with sealant before the non-corrosive Boxer primer is installed; this moisture-blocking material protects the inside of the cartridge from sweat or a humid environment for reliable ignition when you need it. This round is crowned with a carefully designed bonded jacketed hollow-point (JHP) projectile with rounded mouth for smooth feeding as well as shallow cavity with integral skiving.

Bonded bullets are designed so that their jackets are not peeled back or shredded by intermediate barriers. Testing shows that rounds of this nature are less likely to deflect when fired through auto-glass or drywall and will dependably expand in a target after passing through heavy denim or leather. The resulting controlled rate of expansion allows for deep penetration into vital areas where the projectile's maximum potential energy is dumped in order to cause an immediate stop. The 124 grain bullet used in this load is a common NATO weight for 9x19mm and offers a balance between smooth recoil impulse and flat trajectory.

Magtech is a Brazilian manufacturer with nearly 90 years of experience in ammunition and international distribution. Their First Defense line is not only offered as a premium personal protection option but has shown great promise in numerous FBI style testing events.

Gel test Results

In the case of Magtech's Guardian Gold 124 Grain 9mm ammo, we fired 9mm test rounds under our standard testing protocol but found extreme penetration with this load. In fact, two of the five rounds selected for testing blew through 32-inches of ballistic gelatin and could not be retrieved.

For data purposes, we have used a 32" penetration depth but omitted the expanded diameter or weight from our calculations. Since the fired bullets were lost, we were unable to measure them in the final two rounds of this ammunition's testing.
