Federal Ammunition 55 Grain Full Metal Jacket Boat Tail (FMJ-BT) Ammo Details

This 5.56x45 cartridge by Federal falls under the M193 designation, and as such is the standard issue ammunition for the M16A1 rifle. The “X” prefix simply means that this round does not meet military specifications; The “C” suffix is just used by Federal for packaging configuration, and may accordingly be disregarded. This round features a 55 grain gilded metal jacketed lead alloy core projectile, and as such will create relatively little bore fouling when fired and penetrate targets reliably as well.

This first run round is produced by Federal at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, and is loaded to NATO specs. You can count on its new production casing to run smoothly through your AR-15, and you can reload it several times as well. Please note that a 5.56x45 may fit in a rifle rated only for 223 Rem, but that’s about all it does -- do not fire this round in such a rifle!
