6.5 Creedmoor ammo was the first cartridge to ever be built from the ground up to be a match grade cartridge, designed for long range shooting and even hunting. The 6.5 Creedmoor was designed for rifleman and has brilliant ballistic coefficients. The round is capable of mimicking the trajectory of rounds like the 300 Winchester Magnum, without the hard hitting recoil. These rounds can still hold their own in terms of power and weight, but is still comfortable to fire for long sessions. This is important for competition shooters, who can put hundreds of rounds down range in a single day.
The 6.5 Creedmoor is a relatively new round. The round was introduced in 2007 by Hornady for competition shooting, but has also crossed over into hunting cartridges. The 6.5 Creedmoor can be fired in nearly any .308 Winchester rifle by simply swapping the barrels out. In fact, the 6.5 Creedmoor allows for easy use in AR 10 rifles with the correct upper receiver.
While the 6.5 Creedmoor hasn’t caught fire as a hunting rifle, it is growing in popularity. In reality, the Creedmoor shines for what is was developed for: competition. Among competition shooters a small cult like fan base has sprung up for this medium sized round and it’s brilliant ballistics.
